13 Ways to Decorate Your Potted Plants

A blooming pot is a fantastic way to beautify and bring color to our home and garden. However, it's unfortunate when our vibrant and impressive flowers are housed in plain and ordinary pots or planters that lack personal flair. Based on my own experience, transforming your flower pots into unique pieces of art that serve as wonderful decorations is surprisingly simple and doesn't require specialized knowledge or a significant financial investment. You can choose to decorate your flower pots using one of the methods outlined in the following article, or get creative and craft something entirely original. The end result can be proudly showcased in your living room or garden, or given as a cherished gift that will bring joy to its recipient. So, why wait? Keep reading and let the decorating begin!

1. With this simple design technique, any ordinary flower pot can be transformed into a unique landscape masterpiece. All you need are various dry legumes, different types of small stones, colored sand, or similar materials to ignite your creativity. Whether you choose to draw hill stripes directly on the pot or on copy paper, simply apply glue to each designated area, sprinkle your chosen material, wait a few minutes, and repeat the process until your pot becomes a stunning creation like the one shown in the picture.

2. Adding a vibrant and captivating geometric pattern to your flowerpot is a breeze if you have adhesive paper, a steady hand, and some paint. Once you've decided on a pattern (I suggest diagonal lines, like in the picture), just stretch the adhesive paper over the pot, paint it, let the paint dry, and remove the adhesive paper. It couldn't be any easier!

3. My good friend shared a clever tip with me for repurposing extra pots at home. She came up with a unique idea: take a large pot, fill it halfway with soil, and then place a smaller pot inside. Fill the rim of the large pot and the small pot with soil. Now, you can plant various spices or small flowers along the edge of the large pot, while using the small pot as a platform for candles, bird feeders, or as a base for another tall plant to grow.

4. While not everyone may be a fan, there's no denying that glitter can really make ornaments stand out, adding a burst of color and personality. Simply purchase glitter powder in your preferred shade from a nearby craft store. Apply a small amount of glue to the bottom of the flower pot, sprinkle the glitter onto it (it's best to do this outdoors), and ta-da! You now have your very own dazzling and customized flower pot.

5. When you're out for a stroll in nature and spot some dry bark on the ground, collect them for a fun and creative decorating project. Since attaching tree bark to pots and planters can be a bit challenging, it's best to use a hot glue gun for a secure bond. Once you've covered most of the pot's surface, you can fill in any gaps with green fabric or cellophane paper to create a uniform look that resembles a tree trunk.

6. Need a space-saving solution for your home? Look no further! This fantastic idea not only adds a decorative touch to your house, but also helps you recycle your used cans. After thoroughly cleaning the can and removing any wrapping paper, paint it in a vibrant color. Then, simply transfer a flower from your garden or a nursery into the can, and you'll have a lovely decoration for every corner of your home.

7. Here's a clever recycling idea that transforms ordinary cardboard strips into decorative straw-like strips. Begin by cutting long strips of cardboard, approximately 2 cm wide. Twist the cardboard to create a thick lace and securely wrap it around the flower pot or jar you wish to embellish. To ensure a flawless final result, connect the cardboard strips using staples or glue, making sure the wrapping is tight and snug.

8. Fed up with people struggling to locate your house? Look no further! Here's a simple and practical solution that anyone can easily implement. Grab a sheet of plain paper and cut out a template featuring your house number or surname. Attach this paper to a large flower pot positioned near your front door and paint the cut-out pattern using a spray or paintbrush.

9. Don't worry if your clay pot is broken - there are still plenty of creative ways to use it. In fact, after you read this guide, you might even be tempted to intentionally break it in order to create a whimsical and enchanting miniature garden like the one shown in the picture.

10. When it comes to giving flower pots as gifts to your loved ones, why not add an extra touch of creativity by covering the pot with gift-wrapping paper? You can easily purchase rolls of colored paper or simply ask the friendly staff at a gift shop to cut you a suitable amount. If you want to prevent the original color of the pot from showing through the paper, consider painting it white beforehand. Once you have the paper and pot ready, all that's left to do is wrap it up and secure the edges with glue to keep everything in place.

11. A number of small branches of the same length and twine, that's all you need for this lovely project. If the branches are not the same length, you can use a ruler and a small saw to achieve the necessary uniformity, and sand with sandpaper to get a smooth and aesthetic appearance. Arrange the branches around your pot and tie them with the wire at the top and bottom.

12. As you already understood, it doesn't take much to add a personal touch to flower pots, and with a hot glue gun and some glass and metal decorative items, which can be bought at any craft store, your flower pot can take on a whole new life. The simplest and my favorite example is the one shown here in the picture, with glass circles on the rim of the pot and a central decoration that can be slightly curved so that it does not stand out. Give your imagination a free hand and combine these elements and many others in the way you like the most.

13. Finally, here's a delightful suggestion to showcase your talent and creativity - create a vibrant and flowery cover for your flower pot. You can incorporate the pot's original dark color into your design or completely conceal it. If you're short on time or lack the required skills, you can simply use old, unused tissues and attach them to the pot using transparent glue. I'm confident that your guests will be highly impressed by this unique piece, making it a worthwhile investment for your home.
