The candle is a simple invention that we've been using for centuries on end. Just wax with a wick going through, so when we lit the wick the wax slows it down to give us a lasting flame. However, for all those years, we have, without meaning to, sqandering much of the wax, which drips and goes everywhere.
In comes British artist and designer Benjamin Shine, who has come up with a very elegant, yet simple re-design of the traditional candle holder, which may allow candles to last at least twice as long and reused over and over. The design is so simple, I want to hit myself on the head and shout "Why didn't I think of that?".
The melted wax from Shine's candle flows into the hollow stalk, which has a second wick running along its length. The wax accumulates around the wick and hardens, forming a second candle. All that’s left is to open the hollow stalk and use the new candle. While some of us may miss the drips of wax we've come to know from our candles, it makes a lot more sense to do it Shine's way, and re-use the candle.
