Looking to spend time in the garden, but pesky animals like deer, rabbits and squirrel are taking over? While there may be several options available to keep them at bay, most of these items are expensive. Thankfully, this one remedy that I am about to share with you is safe and economical, it is also incredibly effective. You probably already have a stockpile of it at home, under your bathroom sink... any guesses?
A bar of soap may seem like an unusual remedy but it can do more than keep you clean. A bar of soap carries a scent that these 'pests' cannot bear. So, if you are looking to make your own animal deterrent, here's what you need:

What to do:
1. Cut each of your bars of soap into small pieces with your knife. Then divide the pieces equally into the six mesh pouches.
2. Use your staple gun to secure the pouches to the stake. Use one pouch per stake. Then drive each stake into the ground so that it makes a perimeter around your garden.
3. To protect your plants further, sprinkle remnants of soap around the soil. It may also be worth it to add bags of soap in as many places as possible, allowing the scent to spread further.
4. If left out in the rain, the scent will be stronger. Be sure to replace the soap if it ends up breaking up too much, as the suds can do some unwanted damage to your greenery.
5. Note that not all soaps are created equally. Many may contain an ingredient that may actually attract these animals - coconut oil, for instance, is a scent that deer cannot get enough of.
6. Isn't it amazing what a bit of soap can do? In our opinion, this garden hack is definitely well worth a try.
