What would the world be without man's best friend? Dogs are our companions and guardians, and many of us also consider them to be an equal member of the family. Over the centuries and millennia, many different breeds have emerged around the world, and that is because they were developed for different purposes, such as hunting, guarding or herding.
To celebrate all the joy our canine companions bring us, I have put this collection of pooches together - just for you! The first two rows are filled with the eight most popular breeds in North America, whereas the last row is comprised of exotic breeds that are notable for a variety of reasons.
For instance, the Rhodesian Ridgeback was developed in South Africa to hunt lions, the Puli looks like a giant living, breathing mop and is native to Hungary, the Tibetan Mastiff is incredibly rare and expensive, and the Akita has only existed in North America for 80 years or so.
