The Best Soul Music Through the Years

With its jazzy tunes and catchy rhythms, it's hard to ever forget the all-time-favorite soul hits. This style of music, which incorporates traces of African-American gospel music, jazz and rhythm and blues, rose in the U.S. in the late 1950's and early 1960's, at which time it was very popular, especially for dancing. Its popularity was, of course, fuelled by some well-known record labels, including Motown, Atlantic and Stax, and today, numerous decades later, it still thrives.

Undoubtedly, amongst all soul legends, lie The Temptations, Al Green, Otis Redding, and several other great artists whose incredible music had a major contribution to the definition of this genre. To revive the spirit of soul, we've collected 15 of the best soul hits in history, for you to enjoy in this week's music box.
