Air is the new permanent art installation that opened last September in New York. It spans several floors, it's made entirely of glass and mirrors, and it gives you an illusion of walking in the sky. Visitors can enjoy the feeling they're floating as they're taking in the cityscape from a full 360-degree angle.
First floor, Transcendence
Air is located on the Summit platform of the One Vanderbilt tower, on the 91st floor. This floor is located at an altitude of 1,000 feet (300 meters), and it gives visitors that floating feeling the artist wanted to invoke. Artist Kenzo Digital says it took him 3 years to design just the first floor, aptly called Transcendence.
Look from the outside
The entire installation is constructed of glass and over 2,500 mirrors that are made to distort your vision. When you look up, you can see yourself looking down. On the second floor of the installation, when you look down, you'll see an infinity of your reflections looking back. If you look outside, you'll enjoy the New York City panorama, including the top of the Empire State building.
The elevator, made entirely of glass, is named Ascent.
The viewing platforms are named Levitation, and they do give you a feeling of levitation, as their floors are transparent as well.
