Johannes Wessmark’s hyperrealistic paintings look so true to life that most people find it impossible to tell them apart from a photo. But the truth is, the artist’s oil and acrylic paintings are way superior to a photo. “Why,” you ask? In our eyes, any painting is automatically more valuable, and even more so when a work of art requires such immense skill and precision to create. Just try to imagine what a sharp eye and a steady hand one must have, to strategically place every brushstroke, every highlight, and every shadow so that it looks precisely like real life!
And we haven’t even mentioned that the Swedish painter is completely self-taught. Born in 1962, Wessmark only started painting full-time in 2006, turning his hobby into a full-time career. Today, the artist is as prolific as ever. Wessmark is also a twice-published author, and he holds workshops and lectures on his craft both in Sweden and the United States.
