By now, the entire world knows how rough the New York winter can be, with days of relentless rain and ruthless snowstorms. The US-based South Korean artist Chin H Shin looks at this harsh metropolitan winter from a new and romantic angle.
He uses oil paintings to vividly express the textures of rain and snow while incorporating warm tones, such as orange and red, that give his exquisite rain-portraits a cozy feel. Using quick brush strokes and layers of color, he manages to create a magical illusion of raindrops on the canvas. The effect is so vivid, you can almost hear the sound!
