An Impressionist Side of Expressionist Artist Edvard Munch

Some paintings have truly changed the landscape and trajectory of the art world, bringing in new life and flavor that changed the game completely, like Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. Another such iconic work of art, known the world over, is “The Scream”, a piece depicting a bloodcurdling scream trapped in absolute silence and created by the renowned Norwegian painter, Edvard Munch.

Munch was mostly known for his expressionist style of art, often putting his emotional and psychological state into his artwork, a style known as “soul painting”. However, Edvard Munch studied art with a passion and especially in his initial years, experimented greatly with impressionist and naturalist art, very different from the style in which he created paintings like “The Scream”. Despite receiving much criticism from not only the art world but his own family, Munch pursued his dream and created nearly 2000 paintings in his 60-year career. These are some of the paintings that truly show the depth and versatility that this artist had to offer to the world.
