If you think it’s cold where you live now, try to think about voluntarily living in one of the coldest regions in the world - the Arctic Circle, where the average temperature doesn’t exceed 0 degrees most of the year. This is exactly what couple Benjamin and Ingrid Hjertefølger and their four children did when they moved together in an unusual homemade of a mixture of earth and straw, wrapped in a special solar dome, located on the isolated island of Sandhornøya in northern Norway. If you think the cold makes them regret their choice, you should look at the breathtaking pictures of this house and know the unique story of the family that lives there. In the end, you may even hope to one day have the opportunity to live in a home like this.
The Hjertefølger family, whose Norwegian name means "heart-followers," moved to what they call "the house of their dreams" five years ago in 2013. They worked on the construction of this extraordinary building with a little help from family and friends, in no less than a year and a half, using only natural materials. Just installing the specially shaped dome, which was manufactured especially for them in England and is called a "geodesic dome" - took no less than three full weeks.
