10 Companies You Shouldn't Work For According to Americans

While there are a number of popular companies that are notoriously fun for certain employees to work at, such as Google or Facebook, there are others where employees claim to be miserable. What drives long-term employee satisfaction are company culture, career opportunities and trust in senior leadership. Below are 10 American companies that don't have any of these things and are critically referred to as some of the absolute worst places to work.

1. Kraft Heinz
Kraft Heinz is rated a mere 2.7 out of 5 star rating on Glassdoor. It's got multiple frequent ratings of 1, the lowest possible. Stick with eating their products not working for them. Most employees also work beyond the 8-hour shift and aren't earning much to show for it either.
2. The Fresh Market
While their food may be fresh, their working conditions are anything but. The Fresh Market is rated as one of the worst companies on Glassdoor, at only 2.4. Just 27% of employees would recommend their jobs to others.
3. Forever 21
A class-action lawsuit was filed against Forever 21 for failing to pay in-store hourly wages to their workers, especially teens who work there. Working at Forever 21 has been described as 'Sweatshop-like conditions'. No wonder the clothing is so cheap!
4. Walmart
Walmart is notorious for paying poorly. In fact, according to the National Employment Law Project, Walmart pays less than employees who work at Pizza Hut. Cashiers just earn an average of $9.36 per hour and sales associates earn about $9.41 per hour.
5. McDonald’s
McDonald's may be one of the highest-grossing restaurant chains in the country but this doesn't mean most employees are earning a good wage. Most who work there remain on their feet for well over eight hours a day, too.
6. Rent-a-Center
The main issues with working for this company include a work-life balance and senior management. As you may have likely guessed, the employee morale is very low here, which has caused some financial strain on the company in recent years.
7. Kroger
While many people like to shop at Kroger, most people hate working there. The employee satisfaction rating is 3.3 with a 3.2 employee rating on Glassdoor. Additionally, most people who work there are only earning just slightly above minimum wage.
8. Kmart
Kmart has a 2.7 rating on Glassdoor. People working here have described the place as 'work here if desperate'. In addition to this, there have also been a number of stores closing throughout the country.
9. Dish
Cable companies aren't well known for providing the best jobs, but Dish takes the lead in negative reviews, with a pathetic 2.6 overall rating.
10. Hertz
This well-known car rental company is known for its low wages, inconsistent hours and management issues. Only a third of employees would recommend working there to a friend. With an overall rating of 2.6, it's best you probably avoid working here at all costs.
