Ferrari Announces the Fearsome FXX-K Evo

Ferrari released its LaFerrari hypercar for the road back in 2013, then built a limited production, track-only variant of the car called the FXX-K. In 2017, it has gone one better, announcing the build of the fearsome FXX-K Evo.

The car, which features plenty of technology from the racing world, is also track-only, and it won’t be used for competition by racing teams outside of its manufacturer-backed development program. It will be offered to a highly-select group of Ferrari clients that are eager to share in the development of technological innovations with the Prancing Horse’s finest technicians.

The FXX-K Evo is basically a laboratory on wheels, and those that are due to be built will not even reside at home with their owners – Ferrari will keep the cars for them, and invite them to racing circuits to drive them at certain times of the year. Although no price was quoted during the car’s announcement, the previous FXX-K model cost in the region of $3 million.

Featuring intricate and complicated physics, the FXX-K Evo is all about aerodynamics. It has 23% more downforce than the outgoing FXX-K, and no less than 75% more downforce than the road-going LaFerrari.

As can be expected of current limited-edition Ferrari, the FXX-K Evo produces a prodigious amount of horsepower – some 1,036 to be exact. All of that power will be reined in by a Formula 1-style traction control system, Ferrari’s third generation of electronic differential, electronic brake distribution and reconfigured dampers.

Its engine will redline at 9,400 rpm, and stick to the tarmac with a staggering 1,800 lbs of downforce. It is expected that the FXX-K Evo will be able to lap Ferrari’s Fiorano test track in 1 minute 13 seconds, which is five seconds faster than the LaFerrari can muster.
