Our pets form a big part of our family. And as any pet owner knows, when our beloved animals pass away, it can be a difficult time. So, to help you with your grieving process, here are 10 amazing DIY tips to create a lasting memory of the pet you have lost.

1. Bookshelf Shrine

Create a special section in your home office. This will also grab the attention of any guests you welcome into your home, with whom you can then talk about the 'shrine' that you've dedicated to your late pets. This example was created by author Alan Livingston. The top shelf features recitations of the rainbow bridge along with their final paw print and a lock of fur. The middle shelf features marble urns containing his pets ashes, each with a unique plaque with birth and death dates. The lower shelf contains a box for each of his pets with a picture on top. Inside are the collars and tags, with bandannas that each wore as they died in their owner's arms.
2. Planter

When this owner's beloved Golden Retriever passed away, they planted flowers in their pet's favorite feeder placing it at the entrance of their house. This is the first thing the owners see upon entering their house, and what guests are initially 'greeted' with. The flowers symbolize a happy, colorful and full life.
3. DIY Pawprint

If you use a nylon or leather collar on your pet, this can easily be changed into a bracelet once your dog has passed. It serves as a wonderful reminder of your best friend, one that you can wear every day. For a more personalized touch, you can add an engraved bar to it.

5. Toy Shadow Box

Isn't this a unique idea? Created by Tonya Wilhelm of GlobalDogTraining.com, she used her dog's toys to spell out his name in a shadow box. She also included his paw print, collar and a couple of photos. Making it all the more special, she held onto his very first toy - the bunny, which she featured in the box, along with his last toy.
6. Photo Collage
