The Mercedes-AMG Project One Makes Its World Debut

The utterly insane Mercedes-AMG Project One hypercar has finally broken cover, and Mercedes are calling it the first-ever Formula 1 car that can pass a roadworthiness test. This amazing feat of engineering essentially takes a Formula 1 power-train and wraps it in a road car's body. What's more is that it's a hybrid capable of traveling in complete zero-emissions silence for up to 15 miles. As you can imagine, the numbers being bandied about in relation to this car are unbelievable. It will produce more than 1,000 horsepower from its combination of petrol engine, regenerative systems and electric motors, accelerate to 124 mph in under six seconds, and be able to rev to 11,000 rpm. Let's take a closer look:

Mercedes-AMG's long-awaited Project One hypercar has made its debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The mid-engined car is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine that's derived from the engine in the current Mercedes Formula 1 car. Electric motors also provide additional power.

The design features hints of Mercedes Group C prototypes from the early 1990s, as well as F1-esque features such as a shark fin behind the cockpit.

Devoid of any instrument clutter on the dash, the Project One's two dash-mounted digital displays will tell the driver all they need to know.

Much of the car's technology is borrowed from Lewis Hamilton's Formula 1 car (pictured below left).

Project One will also be able to travel a short distance solely using electric power.

The car has a list price of $2.7 million, but all 275 examples to be built were sold long before it was revealed.
