Jon Neill's Pumpkin Carvings

Halloween is upon us and it's time for ordinary folk to put their artistic skills to the test by carving pumpkins into all sorts of weird and wonderful shapes. However, while it might be a bit of fun for most people, master sculptor Jon Neill has turned the seasonal pastime into a true art form.  He makes some masterful, frighteningly detailed pumpkin carvings that are sure to make you jump this Halloween. Some of them are just too scary! You can see more on his website and Instagram page.

Jon used to work for Universal Studios where he was involved in the creation of the T2-3D ride. He also worked on Jurassic Park, Spiderman and a host of other film and TV projects, while his skills have been employed by the likes of the late Michael Jackson as well. He is considered to be one of the best carvers in the world and earns a full-time living from his art. He hosts live pumpkin carving demonstrations every autumn, where he showcases his remarkable skills.

Jon bases himself in California but exhibits his work all over the USA, as well as online. He specializes in pumpkin carving during fall, but such is the demand for his work, he often has to start working on the sculptures in the summer. The time it takes to complete each carving varies according to the size of the pumpkin and the level of detail used, but 5 or 6 hours is a decent guide for a normal sized example. However, he is often asked to carve giant pumpkins, which take a lot longer to complete.
