Donald Trump's Presidential Car to Be Unveiled

The inauguration of a new President of the United States is often coupled with the launch of a new armored car to protect the commander-in-chief from any would-be threats to his life, and the upcoming inauguration of Donald Trump is no exception.

A new version of 'the Beast', which was used to ferry Barack Obama around in safety, was spied being tested at the end of last year. While many of the innovations in the latest iteration of the presidential car remain strictly under wraps, it's common knowledge that it will weigh upwards of eight tons, will feature bulletproof glass and kevlar-coated tires.

It also has a tear gas cannon, shotguns, a fresh supply of oxygen, and two pints of the President’s blood in the unlikely event that he’d need a roadside transfusion. Furthermore, the car’s doors are as heavy as the cabin doors on a Jumbo jet, and cannot be wound down in order for them to retain their bulletproof properties at all times.

Similar to President Obama’s car, Donald Trump’s Beast will look like a stretched Cadillac, but share almost nothing in common with a standard General Motors production car.

Prior to 1939, US presidents used to travel around Washington DC in a horse and cart, with the Secret Service following on horseback or foot. The very first official presidential car was the Sunshine Special – an open-topped ’39 Ford with a 12-cylinder engine.

Ever since that time, the presidential car has been updated periodically with the latest security innovations to ensure that the sitting President has the utmost level of protection. The first presidential car to be dubbed “The Beast” was George Bush Junior’s.

As you can expect, not much is known about the original Beast other than that it has military-grade armor plating, the glass in the windows was so thick that it didn’t let in light, and weighed well over five tons.
