Making Pet Treats at Home

As a dog owner, I have to admit that I like giving my dog the occasional treat, and while she loves those doggy biscuits, I’m often unsure what actually goes into them. For this reason, I have decided to make my own doggy treats! They’re delicious, healthy and easy to make, so I included 2 recipes for doggie treats and 2 for kitties.

1. Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Biscuits

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup peanut butter (natural)
  • 3 cups of whole wheat flour (more if needed)
  • 2/3 cup pumpkin puree

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C)and lightly grease a cookie sheet.
  2. Mix the peanut butter, eggs, and pumpkin puree until the mix is consistent and start adding 2½ cups of flour, then mix until it’s fully blended, then add more flour until the dough is no longer sticky.
  3. If you want different colored treats, split the dough and add food coloring (make sure it's safe for dogs).
  4. Prepare a surface with some flour and knead the dough until it is uniform. Roll the dough with a rolling pin to about ¼ inch (½ cm) thick. You can use bone-shaped cookie cutters to get that store-bought look.
  5. Place the cookies on the baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until the edges get a golden hue.
