Soviet Work Camp Turned to Beach Resort

Located in Estonia, Rummu Prison used to be one of the Soviet Union’s worst labor camps, used to punish dissidents and enemies of the state. Located in a quarry, the prisoners were used as cheap labor. After the fall of the Soviet Union, the prison was abandoned and the quarry was flooded, and a site that used to put fear in people’s hearts – became an amazingly exotic beach!

The old, flooded buildings make for a perfect diving location!
