I Never Knew Hermit Crabs Did This. Wow.

When small hermit and soldier crabs build their little homes (found mainly in Malaysia and Australia), they dig a deep hole in the sandy beach. When doing this, they quickly construct balls of sand so they can later easily push them to the surface, 2-3 balls at a time, making sure the sand doesn't just pile up behind them.

After a while, a pattern emerges, not unlike a flower, a diagram or a galaxy of little sand balls.

If you look closely, you'll see how perfectly spherical the little balls are.
