5 Easy Tips For Keeping Your Closet Clutter-Free

Closets are one of the easiest spaces in the home to get lazy with. Either you don't have enough time to organize their contents, or you plainly don't know where to begin! Here are some great tips on how to efficiently and beautifully organize your closet so that its contents are accessible to you.

1. Get an Idea of Your Organizing Scheme

The best way to get started organizing your closet is to come up with a 'theme' for your organization. The first step in gathering your organizational ideas is to empty your entire closet. Although this may seem like a lot of extra work, it is completely necessary. Then, use sticky notes to mark where you would like to put your various items. If this step is too hard, then begin by color or type sorting, things that you want to be more or less accessible etc. Use the sticky notes to help yourself imagine what your closet will look like, before you start packing in the goods.

2. Try and Make Your Closet Appear As Large As Possible

Even if you have a lot of closet space, or very little, in your home, try not to fill every corner of your available storage. When you pack everything into a closet tight, it will automatically looked cluttered and disorganized, and will also stress you out every time you open it. Instead, leave room and space between items so that your closet looks clean, thought-out and organized. If you do have some items that are a bit unruly, try to find a drawer to place them in so that they don't interfere with your organizational Feng shui.

3. Let's Start Organizing!

Once you've though out how your closet will look and what will go where, now it's time to actually start putting all of your items into the closet. This can be the toughest part because you may have overestimated the amount of space, or underestimated the amount of items in the mix. However, there is no need to fret because usually the problem of too much stuff can be eliminated by grouping like items on each shelf. It is most likely that things you have the most of should be in the most spacious area of the closet, and those that you have the least of should be in a much tighter space.

Another tip, if you begin to see that you don't have enough space, try and go through the items and see if there is anything you don't really need at the moment, such as seasonal clothing. This can save a lot of space and a lot of stress as you organize. It will also prevent cluttering and will leave you room for your current favorite items.

4. Diversify the Display

Most every closet contains a storage section and a display section. Despite what you may think, the open display section of the closet is not made for people who are just too lazy to open up a drawer! You should make the most of these spaces by adding in decorative elements or displaying your favorite items in the front to show them off. Make sure that everything is nicely folded and presentable in the display areas and baskets are also a nice way to keep the look neat.

5. Making Your Closet Pop!

If you are truly proud of your organizational abilities and want to show them off, there are a few ways to make your closet look really special. One way is to paint the back of your closet a bright color that will make it a focal point of the room. Another way is to consider removing the doors and using a curtain instead that may help it blend in better with the rest of the room. Lastly, add a nice scent, some potpourri or drawer linings to the closet, and we promise that every time you open it, you will be thankful that you did.
