The Clouds Drop In For a Visit - Spectacular!

During the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend in the United States, a spectacular natural occurrence took place in the famous Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. On Friday and Sunday the gorges and valleys of the canyon were filled with visceral waves of fog, creating the sense that the rocky canyons were floating on clouds.

This amazing feat of nature was the result of a rare temperature inversion, when hot air from above pressed down to trap the cold air inside the canyon. These kinds of inversions can occur up to once or twice a year in the canyon, but only once in about a decade does the fog fill the entire canyon.

Enjoy these peaceful photographs of the Grand Canyon fog and let them lift you up, up and away into the clouds!
