Sunday's horrific storms hit with a heavy blow in the American Midwest. The damage is beyond estimate. Six people have died in Illinois and countless others are still missing or seriously injured. Hundreds of homes have been flattened or partly destroyed, communities leveled.
I can hardly imagine the many other ways these tornadoes have done terrible damage. Among the worst to be hit was Washington, a town of 15,000 east of Illinois, which was hit by a tornado spinning in speeds of 170-190 mph (273-305 kph). Estimates are that 500 houses or more have been badly damaged in this town alone. At least 81 counts of tornadoes were reported to have ripped through 5 American Midwest states - this is high unusual for this time of year.
Our hearts and prayers go to all the people affected by these horrible storms, in the Philippines as well as in the American Midwest.
