The northernmost city in the United States with more than 100,000 residents, Anchorage, Alaska, has a subarctic climate but with strong maritime influences that moderate temperatures. A diverse wildlife population exists within urban Anchorage and the surrounding area. Approximately 250 black bears and 60 grizzly bears live in the area, among many other species.
