Central Asia is not a prominent destination for most travelers. In part, this is understandable, as the necessary infrastructure - roads, accommodation, tour guides - are often not very advanced in these countries. But those who dare visit this mysterious hidden gem of a region always come back with stories of nature so pristine and vistas so stunning that it’s almost unreal.
The famed Dutch nature photographer Albert Dros is one of those people. Recently, the photographer traveled to Kyrgyzstan, a country in Central Asia surrounded by mountains. But the photos Dros brought back will make you believe that he had been in somewhere in Utah, or maybe in the Alps?
Kyrgyzstan has 88 major mountain ranges that easily reach altitudes of 4,000 meters. There are peaks that go past the altitude of 7,000 meters! And it’s not only about the height. The natural diversity there is astounding. Just a few hours of driving, and you’ll be able to admire both turquoise Alpine lakes surrounded with colorful flowers, snowcapped mountains, glaciers, and massive canyons “paved” in red stone.
As you can see yourself, the nature in Kyrgyzstan is as pristine as it gets. This is because, save from a few cities, many locals still live a traditional nomadic life. These locals live in large circular tent-like structures called yurts, and live a traditional life herding sheep or horses.
