Snowflakes are actually tiny frozen ice crystals which fall through the Earth's atmosphere. They come in a variety of sizes and shapes, and each is completely unique. Complex shapes emerge as the flake moves through differing temperature and humidity regimes, such that individual snowflakes are nearly unique in structure.
Snowflakes appear white in color despite being made of clear ice. It is amazing how natural snow flakes look as if they were drawn by a master artist. Here are some gorgeous shots of this wonderful natural phenomenon!
