The Photorealistic Work of Emily Copeland

Emily Copeland is a Canadian artist who uses charcoal as her medium to create photorealistic images. She focuses on recreating objects on a larger scale. After graduating at the age of 23, she secured her first exhibit in the heart of New York City after getting noticed on Instagram. Now, Emily enjoys drawing as a full time job. When expressed in black and white, objects can either gain or lose their appeal, so finding the right object is necessary.

Not any object will do either. It needs to contain detail, contrast, texture and must challenge Emily in some way.

Antiques always have a story to tell.

When drawing she often refers back to the Baroque era, when artists such as Caravaggio used chiaroscuro to create intense shadows and contrasts.
