Johannes Brahms was a German pianist and composer from the Romantic period. Born in Hamburg, Brahms spent most of his professional life in Vienna, Austria. His reputation as a talented composer is such that he is often grouped with Ludwig Van Beethoven and Johann Sebastian Bach as one of the "Three Bs" of music, a comment that was originally made by Hans Von Bülow, a 19th century conductor. 

Brahm composed for symphony orchestra, piano, organ, chamber ensembles, and voice and chorus. While a lot of his contemporaries found his music too academic, his craftsmanship is now admired by many.
