Inauguration Moments in U.S. History

Friday 20th January 2017 marks another day in American history with the commencement of a new four-year term of a president of the United States. The first inauguration, that of George Washington, took place on April 30, 1789. All subsequent inaugurations from 1793 to 1933 were held on March 4, the day on which the federal government began its operations under the U.S. constitution in 1789. Inauguration day then moved to January 20 in 1937, following the ratification of the Twentieth Amendment to the constitution.
 
While not a public holiday, inauguration day is a federal holiday observed by federal employees. To commemorate this occasion, we have put together some noteworthy and stand-out moments that have taken place on the inauguration day of past presidents. Take a look:
