Put an End to Aches & Pains with These 6 Unusual Remedies

Our body is remarkable. It has the ability to overcome illnesses, aches, pains and worries and sometimes without the need of any external help. Here are 6 alternative remedies I have tried whenever I've felt the onset of a sore throat, had a stuffy nose, felt incredibly nervous and more. The guide below offers some unusual body tricks that'll put an end to your aches and pains. Try them out.

1. Soothe an itchy throat

Remedy: Scratch your ear

aches and pains

A hot cup of tea or gargling on salt water can provide temporary relief from a tickly throat. But according to Scott Schaffer, M.D and ear, nose and throat specialist, the secret behind lasting throat relief is to scratch your ear. According to Schaffer, when the nerves in the ear are stimulated, it creates a reflex in the throat that can cause a muscle spasm. The spasm helps relieve the tickle.

2. Ease a toothache

Remedy: Apply ice to your hand

This trick is especially useful to those with sensitive teeth. When the pain starts to build, place some ice on the back of your hand and rub it back and forth on the webbed area between your index finger and thumb. This remedy works because this area is filled with nerve pathways that run pain signals from the hands and face to the brain. The cool temperatures will block the messages sent by the pain signals.

3. Wash away nerves

Remedy: Blow on your thumb

aches and pains

The sensations of butterflies in your stomach can be quite an uncomfortable feeling. But instead of letting your nerves get the best of you, blow on your thumb to ease your anxiety. While it may sound strange, doing so will regulate your breathing and will control your nerves, helping you slow your heart rate.

4. Get rid of a migraine

Remedy: Apply pressure to the space between your thumb and index finger

Instead of opting for powerful pills to ease the pain, try the ancient technique of pressure points. Use your thumb and index finger of your left hand to apply pressure to the webbing between your index finger and thumb on your right hand. Hold for two minutes rotating your fingers in a gentle, circular motion, then repeat on the other hand. Do not apply pressure to this point if you are pregnant.

5. Unblock a stuffy nose

Remedy: Apply pressure to the space between your eyebrows

aches and pains

If you're Sinuses are feeling blocked, press your tongue against the roof of your mouth and place a finger between your eyebrows and apply pressure. Hold for about 20 seconds so that your sinuses begin to drain. You'll be able to enjoy a deep breath after 20 seconds.

6. Reduce the chance of burn scars

Remedy: Gently press the affected area

Rather than rush for an ice pack after a nasty burn, gently press the affected area. Doing so will help bring your skin back to body temperature less rapidly, to reduce the risk of blisters appearing. This will enable your skin to heal naturally and you'll be left without a burn scar.
