Pull-Apart Raisin Bread
Ingredients for pull apart bread:
Milk - 1 cup
Vegetable oil - 1/4 cup
Light brown sugar - 1/4 cup, 1 tbsp.
Active dry yeast - 1 1/8 tsp.
All-Purpose flour - 2 cups, 1/4 cup
Baking soda - 1/2 tsp.
Salt - 1 tsp. (melted)
Melted butter - 3/4 cup
Ground cinnamon - 1 1/2 tbsp.
Raisins - as needed (savory alternative: cheese and herbs)
Method of preparing the pull apart bread:
  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C or 350°F.
  2. Heat the milk into a small pot. Stir occasionally and slowly add the vegetable oil. Then, while still stirring, gradually add 1/4 cup sugar. Once hot, remove the pot from the stove and let the mixture cool for a few minutes.
  3. Pour the mixture into a large mixing bowl and add the dry yeast. Add 2 cups flour and stir until well-mixed. Cover the bowl with plastic or a moist towel and leave the dough to rise for about an hour.
  4. Once the dough has risen, add in the remaining 1/4 cup of flour, the baking soda, and salt. Mix well.
  5. Lay the dough out on a floured surface and roll it until it has a rectangular shape. Brush the melted butter on the dough. Save a bit of the butter to grease the baking dish and add on top of the bread later.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon with the remaining 1 tbsp sugar and any other spices you might want to add (such as nutmeg and perhaps a pinch of clove). At this point, you should also add the raisins (cheese and herbs if you're making a savory version).
  7. Cut the dough into six strips (horizontally, along the long side). Stack these strips and then make six cuts into smaller squares.
  8. Butter a rectangular baking dish and place the dough squares neatly in it.
  9. Cover the baking dish one more time with a towel to allow the dough to rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Finally, add a bit of melted butter and extra sugar to the top of the dough. Bake for about 30 minutes until the top turns golden brown.
