The Marble Cathedral of Carrera lake!

Lake Carrera, located between Chile and Argentina, is the deepest lake in South America and the largest in Chile, with a surface area of almost 1000 square kilometers and a length of 200 km. In Argentina, it is known as Lake Buenos Aires. It's famous for its trout and salmon, and is a great place to fish. But visually is where it shines, with waters in a million shades of azure, turquoise, aquamarine and emerald. It is indeed one place where you can say that the water is bluer than the sky.

But the real treat can be found along its banks, where huge marble cliffs astound visitors, drawing them to this region. Over thousands of years, they have been weathered and have folded to create this incredible cathedral of marble.

The passageways and caverns of this natural creation are at times large enough to allow small boats to sail through them, although you'll need a good, steady hand on the tiller.

When entering, the beauty of these caverns leaves no heart untouched, no jaw not dropped. They are simply breathtaking.

The marble protrusions are around 300 meters in length. The waters of the lake have slowly weathered the marble, and over countless of years have formed them into this beauty. The different colors come from different materials or impurities within the marble itself. The whiter the marble, the more pure it is. The bluer and pinker the marble, the more 'imperfections', but it is these imperfections that give this cavern its unearthly beauty.
