Why I Love My Food Processor

The first food processor, the Starmix, was introduced in 1946 and looked more like a blender rather than its modern counterparts. In the 70 years since, food processors have become more sophisticated and today they can be used for a variety of purposes, making them one of the most useful appliances in the kitchen.

1. Instantly Churn Cream into Butter

  1. Pour 2 Cups of heavy cream into your food processor and run it for about 30 seconds.
  2. If you stop now, you have some lovely whipped cream.
  3. Run the food processor for about 3-4 minutes. Stop and you’ll discover 2 ingredients – butter and buttermilk.
  4. Use a sieve to remove all the buttermilk from the butter.
  5. Put the butter back in the food processor and add ¼ cup cold water and process it for 10 seconds.
  6. Pour out the water and repeat twice more until there’s no more whey.
  7. Sieve out any remaining liquid (you can now add spices and herbs if you like).

Ingredients

  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ tsp. mustard / mustard powder
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ¾ cup olive oil
  • 5 tbsp. Ghee or a neutral flavor oil (optional)

Preparation

  1. Process the yolks, lemon juice, mustard, and salt until combined.
  2. Once combined, slowly pour in the olive oil until the mixture thickens.
  3. Remove the mayo from the food processor and stir in ghee for flavor.

(Should be used within 4 days)

  • 1 can cooked chickpeas
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic
  • ½ tsp. cumin
  • ½ cup raw tahini
  • Salt

Preparation

  1. Pour all the ingredients (except for salt) into the food processor and pulse until mixed.
  2. Add salt to taste.
  3. Pulse until it is in your favorite texture (smooth/chunky)
  4. Garnish with paprika, parsley, olive oil

(For hot hummus, microwave the chickpeas before beginning)

Ingredients

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • Ice water

Preparation

  1. Pour flour, butter, salt, and sugar in food processor and pulse until mix resembles coarse meal.
  2. Add ¼ cup ice water, pulse until dough is crumbly, but holds together when squeezed.
  3. Remove the dough from the food processor, and knead it together.
  4. Use as you please.
