This Goo is Both Fun & Helpful!

Back in the 80s and early 90s, children were screaming and begging for a can of Slime/Gak or whichever new name the sticky substance got. In the mid-2000s, it was picked up by another company who realized its potential for cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and hard-to-reach nooks.

When I realized it was basically the same thing, I decided to share the recipe with you! You can use it to create a cleaning goo, or make whacky and fun goo for your kids to play with. (There is also an Instructional video at the bottom)

What you’ll need:

  • 8oz (250ml) of plain, white school glue
  • ½ cup of water
  • 1 tsp borax (for cleaning) or ½ cup of liquid starch (for kids)

Fun additions:

  • Food coloring
  • Glow-in-the-dark paint (non-toxic)
  • Glitter

Supplies:

  • Mixing bowl (avoid metal bowls)
  • Measuring cups

Cleaning Goo Instructions:

  1. Empty the glue into the bowl
  2. Add 8oz (250 ml) of warm water into the bowl and stir until fully mixed
  3. Add food coloring (4-12 drops are enough) and thoroughly mix again
  4. Mix ½ cup of warm water and the borax, stir until most of the powder has dissolved
  5. Slowly combine the borax water with the glue
  6. When using the spoon is too hard, use your hands until the texture is gooey enough
  7. (The more you mix, the firmer it’ll get)
