15 Stunning Places in Luxembourg

 The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is one of the most breathtaking places in all of Europe. It is famous for having an abundance of ancient-medieval castles, scores of live music festivals, and scenic valleys, which produces some of the finest wines in the world! You'll definitely want to put Luxembourg high on your list for your next vacation! 

1) Luxembourg City

The highlight of the nation's capital has to be the magnificent Luxembourg Castle, which dates all the way back to the Early Middle Ages. The Gëlle Fra monument pays tribute to all the fallen soldiers that served in World War I. The old city, seen here, truly comes alive at night as well.  

2) Vianden Castle

Vianden Castle is famous for its stunning gothic architecture, which dates back to the 10th century. The castle can be found along the northern part of the country, in the small town of Vianden. Vianden Castle is open to the public, and is a must-see on your to-do list while visiting Luxembourg.

3) Beaufort Castle

Beaufort is located in the eastern part of Luxembourg, and offers some of the most exquisite landscapes of the entire country. Beaufort Castle dates as far back as to the 11th century, and is a remains a widely popular tourist attraction today.

4) Bourscheid Castle

Luxembourg is surrounded with castles, in nearly every town you visit. Bourscheid Castle is the largest medieval castle in the whole country. It is situated between the Meuse and Rhine rivers, which extends all the way to the Swiss Alps. 

5) Little Switzerland

If you enjoy nature, you're going to love the Mullerthal, more commonly referred to as Little Switzerland. You can go hiking or biking, along the thick rugged terrains, which are also ideal places to have picnics. Bring the family along for a fun day in the outdoors. 

6) Esch-sur-Sûre

The small populated town of Esch-sur-Sûre, can be found along the Sauer River, in the north-western part of the country. You can go for a peaceful and relaxing walk along the scenic Upper Sûre Lake, and just admire the views.  

7) Differdange Castle

The city of Differdange is where the vast majority of the country's steel production comes from. Differdange is located in the south-western part of Luxembourg, that borders France and Belgium. The main site to see here is Differdange Castle, which is also home to Miami University's Dolibois European Center. 

8) Dudelange Castle

Dudelange is a stone's throw away from France, and is home to 18,300 residents. The main attraction in this southern Luxembourg town is the historic Mont-Saint-Jean Castle, which is worth the trip to Dudelange alone! 

9) The Echternach Music Festival

The city of Echternach lies right on the edge of the Luxembourg-Germany border, in the eastern part of the country. The Echternach Music Festival is held there every May and June, dating back to 1975. The festival features jazz, medieval-themed music, and classical music. 

10) The Sanstone Formations of Berdorf

Berdorf is a small town in the eastern side of Luxembourg, with a population fewer than 900. The beautiful sandstone formations have drawn many tourists from all parts of the world. You may want to pack a lunch with you, because you may spend your entire day admiring the breathtaking views! 

11) The Fuesend Karneval in Remich

Remich is famous for hosting its annual Fuesend Karneval, which lasts three full days. The Stréimännchen parade features a tremendous bonfire, which symbolizes the end of winter. The city is based along the Moselle River, which is based along the Luxembourg-Germany border.

12) The Vineyards of Grevenmacher

You must make it your mission to walk along the breathtaking valleys of Grevenmacher. The vineyards are responsible for producing some of the finest wines in the world. You don't have to a wine connoisseur to appreciate the natural beauty of the valleys either! 

13) The National Mining Museum in Rumelange

Rumelange is located in the south-western part of the country, adjacent to the French border. The National Mining Museum is the main place to visit, which gives you a glimpse into the nation's steel industry. The majority of the mines are no longer operating today. 

14) Clervaux Castle

Clervaux Castle hosts The Family of Man exhibit, which is a large photographic collection curated by Edward Steichen. The castle also features a German 88 anti-aircraft/anti-tank artillery piece on display, from World War II. History buffs will certainly admire the Clervaux Castle.  

15) The Mudam Museum in Kirchberg

Kirchberg is home to the European Court of Auditors, the European Court of Justice, and even certain parts of the European Commission. You'll want to head over to the Mudam, which is a museum of modern arts, and the site of Fort Thüngen.
