The Most Accomplished People in Sports Today!

There is something about great athletes and incredible moments in sport that’s truly unforgettable and mesmerizing. I can remember how I used to sit by the TV as a child and be amazed by the feats of talent, team-work and skill I saw performed by some of the world's best superstars. If you consider yourself a sports fan, these people and these teams are the kind of legends you must be familiar with.

NBA - National Basketball Association

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the highest scoring player in the history of the NBA with 38,387 points scored in the years 1969 – 1989. The American center played for the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers and won a record six time NBA Most Valuable Player, a record 19 time NBA All-Star, and was a member of six NBA championship teams.

While no one will argue that Abdul-Jabbar was one of best basketball players in the world, there is one title he can't claim, which belongs to Bill Russell. Russell played center for the Boston Celtics from 1956 to 1969. A five-time NBA Most Valuable Player and a twelve-time All-Star, Russell was the centerpiece of the Celtics dynasty, winning eleven NBA championships during his thirteen-year career. That is the most championships wins by a single player to this day, and it's even more amazing that they were won by the same team.

It's no surprise to find out that the player with the most NBA championships played for the team with the most championships, The Boston Celtics. Founded in 1946, it was one of only eight NBA teams (out of 23 total teams) to survive the league's first decade. From 1957 until today the team made it to 21 NBA finals and won 17 of them, the last one in 2008.

NFL - National Football League

The record holder for most points in the NFL is Morten Andersen, nicknamed "The Great Dane". Born in Denmark in 1960, Andersen played in the NFL from 1982 to 2007 and scored 2,544 points. He is notable for also being the all-time leading scorer for two different, rival teams: The New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons. Probably the best NFL Kicker of all times, Andersen also holds the record for most games played (382), oldest player to score 14 points in a game (at the age of 47) and most game winning field goals (103).

Pittsburgh has won more Super Bowl titles (6), won more AFC Championship Games (8), and played in more conference championship games (15) than any other team. The Steelers won their most recent championship in 2009.

Terry Bradshaw (left) and Joe Montana (right) share the record for most wins as starting quarterback in the NFL, with 4 wins each. Bradshaw last played in 1983 and Montana in 1994. The quarterbacks are the leaders of the offensive team, responsible for calling the play in the huddle. In each of the 8 wins divided between these two they were the leaders of their team and together they have scored nearly 500 touchdowns (Bradshaw - 212, Montana – 273).

UEFA -  European Football (soccer) Associations

He played for SK Slavia Prague, Rapid Vienna, and many other teams across Europe.

The Spanish team Real Madrid holds the record for most UEFA Champions League titles, with 10 wins as well as a home dominance of 32 "La Liga" titles. It is one of three clubs to have never been relegated from the top flight of Spanish football, along with Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona. Recently the team has broken another record, with the signing of Gareth Bale, reportedly for around 100 million Euros.

And since we are on the topic, we can't leave out the world cup that is currently taking place. Brazil is the most successful national team in the history of the World Cup, having won five FIFA World Cup titles and reaching the final in 2 other opportunities. Brazil is also one of the only countries, besides Argentina and Spain, to win a World Cup away from its continent (Sweden 1958, South Korea/Japan 2002). Brazil is the only country to take part in all FIFA World Cups since 1930, being the team with most wins and goals scored in the history of the competition.
