It takes a great deal of resources, labor and finances to construct a Boeing 777, not to mention hundreds of people. However, Luca Laconi Stewart accomplished this feat all by himself, using just cardboard and glue. Luca has a unique passion for creating intricately detailed models, and he spent a significant amount of time meticulously cutting and marking 300 cardboard sheets to construct an incredibly impressive model airplane. Even though the model cannot fly, it is a remarkable work of precision and planning, with every detail accounted for, which took years to complete. Why? Because of Luca's incredible eye for detail, as you'll now see. The following pictures showcase Luca's exceptional talent and the incredible model he built.
Luca began constructing an airplane model during his high school years in the late 2000s. Despite his young age, he approached the task with great seriousness and a detailed plan to create a highly accurate model on a 1:60 scale. Although he had experience building models of skyscrapers and other similar objects, he had never attempted such a complex project. However, he was drawn to the intricate design features of the 777 and simply "fell in love" with it. To build the model, Luca opted to use cardboard folders. This choice was made to demonstrate that even a simple raw material can be utilized to create incredible works of art and because it was a cost-effective and readily available option for a student of his age.
Luca spent countless days and hours perfecting his model airplane until it closely resembled the real thing. He utilized various online resources to obtain accurate diagrams of the plane's components, which he then used to construct his model. Remarkably, Luca's model boasts the ability to replicate the movements of the original plane, from opening doors to adjustable seats and retractable landing gear. Despite numerous setbacks and mistakes, Luca remained determined and committed to his project, knowing that perseverance and hard work were key to his success.
Luca paid close attention to every detail of his plane, including the food carts, engine compressor, and pilot's control panel. Assembling the landing gear was a massive undertaking, requiring 82 hours of work with 1,023 parts. Planning the construction of the part and the necessary plans took an additional 45 hours.
Although Luca doesn't plan on building another model like this in the near future, the satisfaction he gained from completing this project is an inspiration to anyone with seemingly impossible goals. His endless patience and dedication is a marvel in itself.
